Federer will attempt to win his ninth Wimbledon title, with Djokovic on the verge of becoming a five-time champion in SW19.

Simona Halep has defeated Serena Williams to win her first Women’s Singles title at SW19.

The Romanian put on a barnstorming display on Centre Court to beat the seven-time Wimbledon champion in straight sets: 6-2, 6-2.

Halep now adds her Wimbledon title to the French Open crown she won last year, and has dropped just one set throughout the tournament.

The Wimbledon 2019 championship rounds are here! And the final matches in the men’s and women’s singles tournament already promise to be exciting.

The tournament kicked off with some memorable upsets — Cori “Coco” Gauff beat her idol, Venus Williams while Naomi Osaka, the No. 2 ranked female tennis player in the world, lost in straight sets against Yulia Putintseva in the first round. On Friday, Rafael Nadal lost to Federer in an intense semifinals match. But big name players are still in the running. On the men’s side, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer have held on tight to their No. 1 and No. 2 seeds, and will face off for the men’s singles trophy on July 14.

“It was the best match. I have worked a lot for this moment. It’s an honour to play in front of the Royal Box. I don’t have the words to explain.

“I had nerves. My stomach was not well before the match, but I came on court and gave my best. It’s something special and I’ll never forget this day. It’s my mum’s dream. When I was 10, 12 years old, she said I had to play the final of Wimbledon. I have worked a lot to change my game, to be able to win matches on grass. It was an amazing tournament and I can’t wait to come back. It’s been an honour.”

The omens had looked good for the American, who has won nine of the 10 previous meetings between these two, but Halep said she is “stronger mentally” than she has been in previous meetings and proved that on Centre Court.
